Holosuit 3.0
Holo Suit 3.0 is a full-body motion capture[↗] and haptic suit[↗] developed for immersive virtual training applications in sports, agriculture, medical simulation, combat simulation, and robotic teleoperation. The project combines industrial design and apparel design to create a wearable system that seamlessly integrates immersive hardware within a functional garment. The suit incorporates an array of 13 strategically positioned across the body including the limbs, shoulders, back, and neck to accurately capture and reconstruct the wearer’s movements in a virtual environment. To further enhance immersion, the suit features 26 haptic feedback patches distributed across key anatomical regions, delivering localized tactile cues in response to virtual interactions. All sensors and haptic Patches are connected to an onboard microcontroller, which wirelessly transmits data to an external computer for motion processing and real-time visualization. A key challenge of the project was the precise integration of sensors and haptic modules into a breathable, padded, two-layer textile architecture while ensuring accurate anatomical placement, durability, repairability, comfort, and manufacturability. Through multiple design iterations and prototype evaluations, the suit was refined to optimize fit, data quality, user comfort, and overall aesthetic, resulting in a wearable platform that effectively bridges advanced motion capture technology within the garment. The technology was used by Indian Space research Organization, The Indian army, The Indian Airforce, YSCE, etc.
